Christian & Single

August 9, 2010

Hello all my Christian lovelies.

If you hadn’t noticed by now, I am not a Christian woman.  As a matter fact, I don’t identify as a member of any organized religion nor do I subscribe to any religious dogma.  Just in case you were wondering, no, I wasn’t raised by wolves.  Unlike me, my parents are very lovely people.  My mother is Christian and my father is Muslim but neither I nor my (3) siblings belong to either (or any) religion.  So many reasons, but we won’t get into any of that here.  (Uh huh,  I can see the wheels spinning in your lovely little heads now.  Don’t worry.  It’s not a big deal.  Unless of course it is, in which case, well, it is what it is.  You love me anyway.  Actually, you have to.  It says it somewhere in the bible.  But don’t quote me on that.)

Anyhow, I’ve made a concerted effort to stay away from blogposts concerning religion because religion is such a touchy subject.  However, I came across a site the other day that I figured would be nice for people who, as they say, are “of the faith.   I stumbled upon it by mistake.  I should’ve known from the title, www.waitingforeve.com, that this would be something religious.  The reference to Eve just totally went over my head (shows you how long it’s been since I’ve been to church).  I wanted to share this because I thought that it could be useful to someone.  I had  hoped that this would be a full service blog/website for singles (particularly women), so I decided that excluding any mention of religion would not be of much service to people for whom sex/dating/relationships/etc. and religiosity intersect.  The message contained in the “About This Website” section touched me a little, so I’m passing it on.  You don’t even have to be religious to appreciate it.  The substance of it is true, through and through, and for  those of you who are single, it’s something you might want to keep in mind.  Enjoy!  And, oh, you can thank me later.

Waitingforeve.com is a webzine dedicated to Christian men who are currently single.

We’re glad you’re here.

We provide support, encouragement, and tools for those wanting to live deep, fulfilling lives as single, Christian men.

You are whole. You are complete. You are such because of Christ in you.

You are called by God to live a life of substance and significance before you get married and even if you never get married.

Waitingforeve.com is a place to explore life together as capable, effective men in the service of God.

Topics will include: Masculinity. Worship and Prayer. Missions.  Sex. Dating. Finances. The character of God. Image.

This community exists to fill a recognized void. Singles’ ministries often focus on getting single people married. They have mixers, barn-parties, co-ed small groups, and, frankly, talk a lot about marriage and family. Churches, at large, are advertised as “family places”, and the singles’ ministries in these churches treat single people as less than complete because we are single.

It is our firm belief that singleness is a gift from God, not a curse. Single people, contrary to popular belief, are not in a holding pattern of sorts. God is not waiting to unleash us into ministry until we get married and have a family. God is interested in using single people now – while we are single – in meaningful, profound ways; ways that are unique to single people; ways that married people cannot necessarily be used.

God desires us to use our time, money, availability, passions, sexuality, travels, and so much more to illuminate the dark world with the light that is Christ!

Waitingforeve.com is here to explore all the ways God wants to use us and can use us. We are going to dream and innovate together. We are going to rejoice and suffer together. We are going to share all God is doing as single men, and servants of Christ.

Also, Father C.J. McCloskey has several videos on Youtube with spiritual guidance for singles, marriage, and relationships.  Here’s one“Women Who Are Called to Marriage”
